School District 8 Kootenay Lake offers a Late French Immersion Program for students in both Creston and Nelson! French Immersion is a vibrant program of choice, and we are beginning our information and registration process for the 2023-24 year. Our district program is delivered at the following schools: Canyon-Lister Elementary in Creston, and Trafalgar Middle School and LV Rogers Secondary School in Nelson. Creston French Immersion 2023/2024
All students who have completed Grade 4 and are residents in Kootenay Lake School District 8 are eligible. The program is located at Canyon-Lister Elementary school for Grades 5–7 as a multi-age language program for the 2023-24 year. The current class size configuration is up to 27 students.

Nelson Late French Immersion 2022/2023
All students who have successfully completed Grade 5 and are residents in Kootenay Lake School District 8 are eligible. The program is located at Trafalgar Middle School for Grades 6–9, and continues for Grades 10-12 at LV Rogers Secondary School beginning in 2023-24.

Program Registration Process
Program registration for both Creston and Nelson area French Immersion programs opens Friday, January 6, 2023 at 9:00 am PST and will close Friday, March 1, 2023 at 4:00 pm PST via a digital registration form which can be found above. The link to the registration form will be sent out to all Grade 4-6 families in Creston, and all Grade 5 families in Nelson and area. Priority for admission into the Creston program will be given to Grade 5 students, though all students in Grades 5-7 are eligible to apply at this time.

An email notice will be sent to all families who applied to the program indicating program enrollment status. SD8 will not be calling or sending letters to notify families– all correspondence will be via email.
