What is it?

Students at PCSS in Creston have an opportunity to take a course that is unlike most others in the Province. Students interested in entering the Carpentry trade can do so by enrolling in a Carpentry Foundation program; students at PCSS can do this without leaving their school. PCSS is recognized by the Industry Training Authority as a Designated Training Partner which allows them to offer the same programs found at technical colleges right in the classrooms of their school. But this isn't the only place the course happens. Also unique from other foundation programs is that this program takes place in the real world on an actual construction site. Every year students participate in framing and pouring a foundation along with framing a house. This is something that doesn't happen if you take this program in a regular college.  Like all of our other YTT Foundation programs, students enrolled in the PCSS Carpentry Foundation program take this program free of charge. When they have successfully completed the program, students will have completed their Level 1 Carpentry Apprentice training, as well as have logged 450hours towards their first level of their apprenticeship.

This program positions students incredibly well to enter the carpentry trade, giving them step up from a young age!

How do I apply?

If you are interested in particpating in the Carpentry Foundation Program, you need to talk with your counsellor to ensure you have the necessary pre-requisite courses to graduate if you are going to do the program in your final year of highschool.  From there, they will sign you up for the program if you both feel you will be successful in the course.
