A Numeracy Assessment for middle years classrooms
What do our kids know? What can we do about it?

Innovative Learning is sponsoring an exciting opportunity to join Carole Fullerton and a community of practice to enhance teaching of numeracy proficiency in grades 8 & 9. We will have a focus on themes in middle years mathematics and the use of a formative assessment tool to develop class profiles and target instruction.

Carole Fullerton has taught in elementary and secondary classrooms in British Columbia and Ontario in both English and French. A passionate mathematician, Carole has given presentations at Canadian, US, and international conferences on mathematical thinking, visualizing, and reasoning. In her work with teachers, she promotes a teaching through problem-solving approach to mathematics learning, using the Big Math Idea (backwards design) as a framework for supporting diversity and facilitating assessment for learning.

Serires Dates are as follows:
October 13th 9:00-11:00 (PDT) Zoom In this session we will explore the design, philosophy and the tasks themselves, learning how to administer the tasks and what to watch for in students’ performance. Following on this first session, teachers will commit to do one provided warm up and assessment task with their students before the next session. REGISTER HERE

November 4th 9:30-11:30 (PDT) In Person Gather together to share results of assessment, co-assess student samples and make plans for instruction based on results.

February 23rd 9:00-11:00 (PST) TBD Gather again with a focus on teacher questions around instruction and ideas for addressing diversity in the middle years/secondary math classroom.
